This is a digital platform created to reflect and report on the black experience across expressive mediums.

The Social Scribe was created to enable people who love writing to do just that, whether they are established, looking to build their portfolio or just really enjoy writing and want to develop their skill.

A scribe relays information to others in real-time by interpreting information presented to them. Writers of The Social Scribe will be doing just that.

The name of the platform is in part inspired by a passage in the Bible, where God describes a writer as His ‘Scribe’ and also inspired by the Social topics the blog will reflect on.

Our logo consists of the blog name in a mirror, this is to illustrate the purpose of the blog - to act as a reflection on the Black experience.

The image background is black while the writing is in white to buttress the concept of our words illuminating our environment, even outside the confines of The Social Scribe. The colour theme will also be black/dark to enable our words to stand out physically and to illustrate the effect words have in our day-to-day, interpersonal experiences. For marketing, images will have brighter backgrounds and imagery to attract readers and non-readers to the platform.

Timi Olaitan

founder of The Social Scribe.

Hi! I’ve been meaning to start something like The Social Scribe for a while, but life got in the way and ultimately distracted me from my truest love; writing.

I want to empower other writers, hence the reason for my Scribes. I found them via a writer-call I made on Tik-Tok back in June and I am so grateful for the people the video reached.

I currently write the Business column because discovering and supporting black-owned businesses is a huge love of mine.

I hope for The Social Scribe to hold social events for writers, and to build a community for black journalists in the UK. <3
